'Fall' in Love with Colorado
Fall is one of the best times of the year to head outdoors in Colorado and there’s plenty of excellent outdoor activities to entertain you and the family. Check out some of these options.
###Try some classic fall activities:
This is the perfect time to check out the fall colors. Head for a hike up Pikes Peak if you’re feeling especially adventurous, or take the kids for a nice, easy hike around the Sprague Lake Loop in Rocky Mountain National Park, just two hours outside of Denver.
Going apple picking is a great way to spend an afternoon outdoors and have plenty of fruits to snack on later or make a pie with. This quintessential fall activity is something that the whole family can get involved in, and there’s plenty of options throughout the state, like Apple Valley Orchard in Primrose, CO, or Ya Ya Farm and Orchard in Boulder County.
If you’re looking for something a little quicker and easier, why not check out a local farmers market, like the Denver Farmers Market or the Montrose Farmers Market? That way, you can experience the fall weather, see some live entertainment, and purchase fresh, seasonal produce to taste some of the fruits of Colorado’s farmers.
###Or head out to the water:
Colorado’s fall activities aren’t limited to the land. If you’re fishing from a boat, try focusing your efforts on larger lakes and waterways where the water temperature hasn’t fallen below 50 degrees yet. As summertime crowds start to disperse, the water clears up and fish tend to rise from the deeper parts to explore closer to the surface. This means that you’ll have plenty of chances for trout and bass fishing. This is also a great time of year to try fly fishing. Without the crowds of the summertime, the pressure is off on some of the most popular rivers for fly fishing, so make sure you use a top-floater with a bit of movement.
